Järjenpaikka (Place of Sanity)

2014 / wood, strobe light, sound / 61 x 59 x 51 cm / 24 x 23 x 20 inch

The installation/sculpture is a moving exploration of loneliness and isolation; it is inspired by Finland’s high suicide rate, which is thought to be a result of its long winter darkness and the isolation of large portions of its population. The work examines how space affects the physical, mental and emotional extremes of the human condition.
